Rinka Hayami

Hayami wears her wavy, light-brown hair at a medium length, a shade the anime shifts to orange-brown, and lets her bangs fall over the brows on either side. Her eyes are sharp and brown, tinted sea-green on screen, and their severity mirrors her no-nonsense manner, part of why fans tag her a tsundere. Her hairstyle shifts over time: worn loose at first, tied into low pigtails once she realized it matched Irina Jelavic's, and finally grown long and untied in the seven-year timeskip.

Reserved, professional, and often likened to a grown working adult much as Ryunosuke Chiba is, Hayami carries herself with a seriousness that makes her blunt and to the point. She was gentler in her earliest scenes, chatting and even smiling with classmates, before drifting steadily toward her cooler default. Underneath it all sits a warmer, tender streak, betrayed by a photograph of her happily cradling a kitten.

Hayami slipped into Class 3-E after leaning too heavily into others' expectations; too accommodating to object when classmates relied on her, she was left with no room to study and dropped to the bottom track. Her marksmanship stands near the very top of the class, best among the girls and third overall, built on unusually sharp motion perception, nimble fingers, and steady balance. Those gifts make her lethal against moving marks and quick to fire, and she can loose a shot from positions others cannot manage, such as dangling upside down from a tree limb, though her range and raw hit rate fall a step behind Chiba's. The veteran coordinator Lovro Brovski counts himself among her admirers.

She earns her real spotlight during the island assault, paired with Chiba to shoot a pinned Korosensei; the two miss by half a second and briefly lose all confidence. Facing the hitman Gastro soon after, they falter again until Korosensei reminds them that the class will shoulder any failure alongside them, and the reassurance steadies their aim enough to bring Gastro down. The pair later get themselves barred from a shooting gallery for cleaning out its prize shelf. When the class splits into a paintball civil war, Hayami takes the assassination side and opens by dropping Kotaro Takebayashi on Karma's cue, going on to eliminate Yuma Isogai and Manami Okuda before a lucky shoulder hit from Toka Yada finally removes her.

In the closing stretch she and Chiba pick off Craig Hojo's mercenaries in the mountains, then watch helplessly through the clash between Korosensei, Shiro, and the false God of Death, ultimately witnessing Nagisa Shiota deliver the final blow. Seven years afterward she rejoins her old classmates to patch up the aging school building and admits she is nowhere near finishing the book of guidance Korosensei left behind. Along the way she hands Chiba a Valentine's chocolate whose meaning stays deliberately unclear.
