HEART of WOLF

As Quincy: Vollstandig activations wipe out Shinigami across the counterfeit Seireitei, Bambietta Basterbine's own wings emerge and she blankets the streets with The Explode, gravely wounding Shinji before Komamura returns to shield him. She reveals that her Reishi projectiles do not detonate on impact but turn whatever they touch into a bomb, rendering armor and parries useless. When her barrage strips away Komamura's helmet, it exposes a wholly human face.

A flashback recounts how the Wolfman Clan Elder offered Komamura the Humanization Technique, a means of shedding the beast form imposed as punishment for ancestral sins, at the cost of his own heart. Bent on avenging Yamamoto, whom Yhwach cut down, and repaying the debt he owed for being taken in, Komamura tore his heart from his chest. In the present he activates Kokujo Tengen Myo'o: Dangai Joe, shedding his Bankai's armor to leave only raw power.

Because Dangai Joe strips the armored Bankai of its life, The Explode finds nothing living to frighten, and its wounds simply knit shut. When Bambietta blasts Komamura's own chest, she is horrified to discover the hollow where his heart once beat, meaning he cannot die in this state. Komamura corners her, insisting he has staked his life rather than thrown it away, and a single sword stroke drives her own undetonated projectiles back into her body, immolating her.

Victory carries a price. Komamura collapses and his Bankai shatters as the technique lapses, his body reverting into an ordinary wolf while the Elder devours his still-beating heart, feeding on his hatred. His lieutenant Iba finds the transformed captain, hoists him up, and vows to press on toward Silbern to avenge Yamamoto together.

Elsewhere, Nanao rebuilds Hakudan Keppeki as hexagonal plates against Haschwalth, who is recalled to Silbern before their duel can resolve. Revived by James's cries, Mask De Masculine flattens Ikkaku, Yumichika, and Hisagi, only for Kensei and Rose to step in and challenge him. Deep in the Irazu Sando, Ichigo is flooded with the Soul King's memories and power as Ichibe wonders whether he will hold it or break, before reaching Senjumaru Shutara's palace.

The seventeenth Thousand-Year Blood War episode concludes the duel between Komamura and Bambietta while advancing several parallel fights. It expands the other Sternritter's Vollstandig activations, adds flashbacks to Yamamoto's death and Tosen's final moments, and dramatizes Ichigo's ordeal absorbing the Soul King's power on his path forward.
