The 384th episode of Bleach, and the eighteenth of Thousand-Year Blood War, pits Kensei and Rose against the theatrical Sternritter Mask De Masculine before Renji arrives with a true Bankai that finally ends the star's rampage.
Inside Mayuri's hidden lab, technicians chart the Wandenreich's rebuilt city and report the Gotei 13 down to a fraction of its fighting strength. Mayuri patches Captain-Commander Shunsui through to every surviving member's Denreishinki, ordering them to regroup at the five remaining barracks rather than die scattered and alone.
Challenging Mask De Masculine alongside Rose, Kensei unleashes his Bankai, Tekken Tachikaze, whose gauntlets compress the explosive force of his Shikai into his fists. He batters Mask brutally, but James's cheering revives the Sternritter, whose Schrift feeds on adoration. Empowered, Mask overwhelms Kensei and snaps his arm. Rose then bisects James with Kinshara and activates Kinshara Butōdan, a dancing troupe that crushes Mask with Sea Drift and scorches him with Prometheus. Mask escapes the melody's grip by rupturing his own eardrums, then blasts a hole through Rose with Star Flash.
Renji intercepts a second blast and squares off as Rukia carries the wounded captains toward the Fourth Division station. James's clones heal Mask and pump him into a swollen Star Power-Up, but a flashback reveals Ichibe'e Hyōsube teaching Renji that Hihiō Zabimaru was only half a name. Calling forth his true Bankai, Sōō Zabimaru, Renji shatters Mask's arm and incinerates him with Zaga Teppō, reducing the star to ash. Yhwach absorbs the fallen Sternritter and falls asleep, whereupon Haschwalth emerges from a Shadow to explain matters to Uryū.
Shunsui orders the surviving Soul Reapers to rally at the five remaining barracks. Kensei and Rose fail to defeat Mask De Masculine, whose power grows through James's cheers. Ichibe'e reveals that Renji's Bankai carried a false name, and Renji awakens the true Sōō Zabimaru to kill Mask. Yhwach reclaims Mask's essence and enters a rejuvenating sleep, prompting Haschwalth to speak with Uryū as Yhwach's designated successor.
The episode adapts portions of chapters 560 through 565 within the Thousand-Year Blood War arc. It expands several beats absent from the manga, including Rukia ferrying the captains to Isane for treatment and Rose narrating his attacks, while trimming some of Mask and James's byplay. Censorship softened the wound left in Rose's chest. It premiered in Japan on August 5, 2023, opening with STARS and closing with Endroll.
