Piccaro Calvino

Calvino cuts an imposing figure as a heavyset, bald gangster, a look the animators modeled on the American rapper The Notorious B.I.G. When trouble starts, he reaches for a Browning Hi-Power pistol.

He runs his operation with a boss's authority and does not forgive betrayal. Once crossed, he becomes single-minded and ruthless, willing to lean on a hostage's family and to open fire in a crowded spaceport to get what he wants.

Calvino heads a Venus outfit whose members include Bakri Chinva, Carpi Paolo, Achebe Laman, and Roco Bonnaro. He organizes a heist to lift a rare Grey Ash plant and brings Bonnaro along, a job that lands a bounty on the group. Bonnaro then turns on him, making off with the plant to buy a cure for his ailing sister. Calvino hunts the traitor to the Venus spaceport and corners him in a restroom, then squeezes information out of him by using the sister as leverage. The trail leads to Spike Spiegel, whom Bonnaro had handed the plant. When Bonnaro moves to shield Spike, Calvino opens fire, but Faye Valentine, tracking him for her own reasons, gets the drop on him and forces his surrender.
