Sister Clara

The series pictures Clara through her role rather than any catalog of features, presenting her as the maternal figure at the heart of a bustling orphanage. Her defining image is a practical one: hose in hand, ready to spray down the rowdy children whenever their excitement boils over.

Clara is warm, patient, and quietly devoted to the many children who pass through her care. She meets their boundless energy with good humor, reaching for a garden hose to settle them when they grow too wild, and she never stops wondering about the ones who leave. Years after Edward vanished, Clara still holds her in mind, welcoming her back with a shared meal and gentle news of her family.

Across the 2060s and 2070s, Clara tends an orphanage on Earth where children constantly arrive and depart. In 2066 a stray child, Edward, wanders in unannounced and soon becomes one of the family, only to slip away without a word in 2068, leaving Clara to wonder about her fate. Among the other youngsters in her charge are Cain, Zuzu, and Sean.

In 2071, Mr. Appledelhi arrives searching for Edward, and Clara shares what little she knows, accepting a holographic photograph of him to pass along should the girl ever return. Two months later Edward does come back, this time in the company of Faye Valentine. Clara sits them down to eat, tells Ed about her father, and sends the pair off with a fond farewell.
