History
Gardner sits among the most powerful officers of the state military and holds a high place within Central Command. When Major General Armstrong is transferred to the capital, it is Gardner who lets her in on one of the army's buried horrors: a stock of homunculus soldier-dolls kept deep below headquarters, ready to be loosed upon the state's enemies and reproduced from them. His own part ends quickly once the Promised Day arrives and the Briggs forces move on Central City. Trying to rein in Armstrong, he takes a bullet to the head from her and dies on the spot.
