Ichirō Watabe

Standing 170 cm, Watabe keeps his brown hair cropped short and wears a pair of glasses.

Watabe's defining trait is his fixation on Miyamura, whom he trails to build an enormous, mostly candid photo archive. He insists it is curiosity rather than affection, and the habit stays confined to school; Miyamura's home life is off-limits.

His watching runs so deep that he notices details Miyamura himself misses. When Miyamura's slippers went missing and suspicion landed on him, Watabe already knew they had simply been left in the wrong cubby, explaining only, Because it's Miyamura's? Take Miyamura out of the room, however, and Watabe reverts to an unremarkable, ordinary student with none of the obsessive edge.

Miyamura dislikes being followed yet has never told Watabe to quit, likely because he has never grasped the full scale of the collection; a single call brings Watabe running before the name is even finished. Kyōko Hori bears him no hostility, and he finds it sweet that Miyamura has a girlfriend, but she watches him closely, ranking him high among those who might pull Miyamura away, and jokes that his name reads Watabe yet sounds out as pervert.

Watabe also counts among Tōru Ishikawa's friends. Once Ishikawa grows close to Miyamura, he becomes uneasy about Watabe's fascination and worried for his friend. Watabe, for his part, prefers Miyamura with long hair and glasses.
