Motoko Iura

Motoko keeps her green hair cropped short above a pair of lime-green eyes, a palette that plainly marks her as Shū Iura's sibling. The resemblance runs deep enough that gender-swapped versions of the two look all but interchangeable, and between the short hair, plain clothes, and shared features she is frequently taken for a boy.

Calling herself the quiet, gloomy sort, Motoko stands as the inverse of her outgoing brother. She keeps to herself and struggles to make friends, a shyness that trails her into the classroom, even as she turns notably rougher and more forceful with Shū than with anyone else. Underneath it she is bright, though she rarely trusts that intelligence enough to lean on it. Three years Shū's junior, she works through her final year of middle school with her sights fixed on the demanding East High, and to help, Shū lines up tutoring for her with Kyōko Hori, one of the smartest students he knows, ahead of the entrance exam.

Motoko's push for East High ends in disappointment when she falls short on the entrance test, yet her score lands high enough for Katagiri, and Shū softens the blow by insisting she will prefer its cuter uniform anyway. She enrolls there in the end, and Hori and Shū later trade fond hopes on graduation day that she will gather as many memories at Katagiri as they did. Around others her ties run quietly tangled: she nurses an unspoken liking for her classmate Aoi Kitahara, only to bristle when his attention drifts toward Shū, and she starts out at odds with Megumi Akitsu over the same boy before the two settle into friendship. One brief moment even catches her watching Izumi Miyamura from a window above the school grounds.
