Gameplay

Matches play out as best of two round, Street Fighter II style duels with depletable health bars and an optional or adjustable round timer. The camera zooms in and out with character movement in a manner reminiscent of Samurai Shodown, and the game offers an easy mode built around simple button presses alongside a normal mode with fuller input combinations. Nine Guardians are selectable: the five Inner Senshi plus Sailor Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto, with Sailor Saturn notably absent.

Ports and Reception

Tose developed the game for Bandai as a Japan only 3DO release on March 17, 1995, with no arcade original behind it and no verified North American or other overseas release. It sold strongly on the format, reported at over 11,000 copies in its first week and roughly 19,000 lifetime in Japan, though English language coverage was mixed: Next Generation gave it 2 out of 5 citing stilted animation and unpolished controls, French magazine Player One scored it 25 percent, while Spanish outlet GamesTech called it the best Sailor Moon fighting game and Retro Gamer later counted it among the 3DO's better 2D fighters.
