Gameplay

Departing from the fighting format of the previous DS entries, this installment plays as a side-scrolling action game that uses both screens. Players guide nine playable characters through combat-heavy stages, chaining melee strikes and special abilities pulled from each fighter's powers.

Story

The plot is original to the game. Rukia Kuchiki discovers a glowing Zanpakutō named Higanbana, which possesses her and warps her powers. Ichigo and his allies then have to confront the corrupted Rukia and break the blade's hold over her.

Reception

Famitsu scores the game 31 out of 40. Released only in Japan on August 6, 2009, it carries the theme song Shōjo S by the band Scandal, the same track used as the tenth opening for the Bleach anime. It never sees a Western release.
