Tenji

Living in the age before shinobi arose, Tenji held the throne of the Land of Ancestors while it feuded with the Land of That across a contested border. Where both his subjects and the rival nation favoured force, he pressed for talks and treaties, hoping to keep war from igniting. Kaguya's arrival changed everything: startled to hear she had come 'from the stars', he warmed to her the instant she voiced a wish for peace that matched his own. He let her remain on his land, called on her daily, and fell in love, even as word of the affair drifted to the Land of That.

So fierce was his commitment that he warned his own followers he would have them killed if they jeopardised the calm. When Suzaku, that nation's minister, attempted to seize Kaguya and she cut down his soldiers defending herself, Tenji shrank in dread from her divine might and resolved to betray her rather than let war erupt. As both camps closed in to capture her, Kaguya devoured the God Tree's fruit and, newly empowered, cast the Infinite Tsukuyomi. Caught in the genjutsu, Tenji asked what she was, never realising she was carrying his two sons.

Good-hearted and honourable, Tenji held his realm and its people close and would go to almost any length to dodge bloodshed, even sitting down to bargain with foes. He carried little spite for his rivals; for example, the Land of That once leaned on a forged map to pry territory from his country. He loved Kaguya dearly and guarded her, the two of them united by a dream of a peaceful world; yet that love for peace finally outweighed his love for her, since he stood ready to hand her over to death to hold war back.

Little is recorded about what Tenji could do in a fight; the sole ability ever shown is his handling of a bow.
