Gameplay

Players build a deck on a four by five grid using three panel types: Battle panels (the playable characters, four to eight blocks each), Support panels (two to three blocks, for non playable assists like extra attacks or healing), and Help panels (single block boosts). At least one of each type is required before a match starts. Fights take place in manga styled arenas with destructible platforms and series specific obstacles, and characters gain dash moves, guard breaking attacks, and unique Ultimate Actions for recovery or evasion.

The game includes 305 characters total, 56 of them fully playable, spanning 41 different Shonen Jump series. Naruto is one participant among many franchises such as One Piece, Dragon Ball, Bleach, Death Note, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and YuYu Hakusho, rather than a Naruto exclusive title. Release & Reception

Developed by Ganbarion and published by Nintendo, it launched in Japan on November 23, 2006 with Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection support for online play. Licensing complexity across so many manga properties kept it a Japan only release. Metacritic lists an aggregate score of 89 out of 100, putting it among the best reviewed titles to feature the Naruto cast in a supporting role.
