Appearance

Standing around 175 centimeters and roughly 65 kilograms, Aston carries himself more like a wandering swordsman than a typical military officer. His character material labels him a confused samurai, a nod to his fixation on katanas and warrior ideals he only half understands. A transmutation circle is etched onto the sheath that holds his blade.

Personality

Away from battle he plays the carefree womanizer, brushing off anything serious and steering conversation toward swords and a romanticized Bushido he barely grasps. The moment a fight begins, that act drops away and is replaced by cold, rapid precision. His years in Ishval left deep wounds, and he recoils from turning his sword on anyone he once served beside. When lives hang in the balance, he will trade his own to spare the people around him.

History

Martins earned fame during the Ishval Civil War as the Thunder Alchemist, climbing eventually to Lieutenant Colonel and forming a close bond with a fellow alchemist, Seraphy Royce, who vanished and was assumed dead before the war's end. Years later, after King Bradley ordered Edward Elric to wipe out dangerous chimera near East City, Roy Mustang recommended Martins for the special team Edward put together.

The squad uncovers that Royce, now going by Lincor, is behind the chimera outbreak, which leaves Martins reluctant to strike his lost friend. When Lincor releases a regenerating super-chimera instead of the expected Philosopher's Stone, Martins drives his sword into the creature and floods it with electricity, destroying it at the cost of his own life while begging his comrades to stop Royce. In combat he channeled his alchemy through his swordplay, sharpening every cut and loosing bolts of electricity from the blade, apparently by bending the electromagnetic field around himself.
