Chūkaku

Small and slight, Chūkaku carried the look of an elderly ascetic: a smooth bald scalp, a long strand of thin grey whiskers, and oversized ears that jutted out from his head. Deep creases lined his brow and eyes, which sat dark beneath them. His reincarnation lent him the grey sclera and coarsened features common to Kabuto's revived dead, and he wore the pale and slate robes typical of the Fire Temple's monks.

A serene and seemingly enlightened soul, Chūkaku had no taste for fighting, yet he accepted his forced return with the same resignation as the other resurrected shinobi. He confessed to having lived in ignorance, and he was most often found deep in meditation, quietly observing the clashes unfolding around him.

In life Chūkaku mentored Chiriku before passing away and being laid to rest in the Fire Temple's graveyard, where Kabuto later disturbed his remains while hunting for that same former pupil. Though he judged himself weaker than Chiriku, he held real expertise in the formulas behind sealing arts and could wield a set of prayer beads to loosen a binding. Kabuto, treating him as an expendable piece, sent him to unfasten the seal restraining the Third Raikage so that a deadlier reincarnation could be freed. Chūkaku had very nearly succeeded when Temari struck him down and the Fourth Division locked him away. Once the Impure World Reincarnation was finally undone, his spirit slipped back to the afterlife.
