Appearance

Diamond-cut sunglasses and a red band tucked beneath his beige hair mark Oyashiro at a glance. He keeps both a moustache and a goatee, and his eyes are a deep violet. His outfit runs to a loose tunic in pale brown, its edges trimmed with green and khaki striping, worn over a teal top and light green trousers. A pink bangle circles his right wrist, and plain flip-flops cover his feet.

Personality

Money and acquisition drive nearly everything Oyashiro does; his one genuine interest is amassing owners of bloodline abilities and hiring out their power. He prefers snatching young children over adults, finding them far easier to take, then hardening them into ruthless fighters so their gifts sharpen and their value to buyers climbs. The suffering he inflicts earns him the loathing of his captives, many of whom dream of paying him back, though he waves off such resentment as beneath his notice. Being branded a criminal troubles him little, and he is quick to throw Sasuke's own past back at him when accused of exploiting people. The single crack in his indifference is Chino: Orochimaru remarks that Oyashiro is utterly lost where his cherished daughter is concerned, and that under the apparent harshness he dotes on her, ready to go to any length for her sake.

History

Oyashiro belonged to the Chinoike clan and once lived in the Valley of Hell with his wife and their daughter, Chino. The clan had endured there in peace for generations, but the strain of living packed so tightly together turned petty quarrels deadly, and when the bloodshed ended only Oyashiro and Chino remained. Haunted by his part in the slaughter, above all his wife's death, he resolved that Chino should surpass the man he had been. He hid the fact that he was her father, feeding her the lie that he had wiped out her family so she would grow up believing herself the last heir to the Ketsuryugan, and therefore something valuable to sell.

Leaving the valley behind, he built a trade in weapons and shaped Chino into both his guard and his enforcer in shady dealings. He also began gathering other bloodline children, among them Fushin, sheltering them while pressing them into his retinue. After some years Fushin slipped away with Chino and the rest, and although Oyashiro spoke of betrayal, he was quietly pleased to see them make their own way. Fushin's later creation, the Lightning Group, hunted him again and again and drove him out of the open into a string of secret refuges, though he still crept into the Coliseum whenever a bloodline fighter was set to compete, hoping to claim them.

His own Ketsuryugan came with the clan, and he credits his medical ninjutsu, which keeps him perpetually in demand, for the fact that he has never gone hungry; the anime has him slaying his entire clan single-handedly, a sign of real skill. When Sasuke Uchiha entered the Coliseum, Oyashiro pitted a fighter named Futsu against him and lost, which by the arena's rules should have handed Futsu over. Sasuke refused the prize and instead pressed him for word of Fushin. After Sasuke branded him a slaver and beat every challenger to win their freedom, an amused Oyashiro gave up Fushin's last location in the Land of Water. When the Coliseum was later stormed and its patrons hauled off, he slipped away clean, met with Orochimaru to voice his pride in how Chino had grown, and mused about turning the Valley of Hell into a hot-spring resort now that his weapons trade was finished.
