Appearance

Green eyes and brown hair cut to the chin, framing her face and hiding her ears, mark her across the years. As a young woman she stands fairly tall with a curvy figure, dressed in a snug red-pink outfit that bears a single long sleeve on the left and an orange sash. Age turns her hair grey and softens her wardrobe into a loose yellow kimono.

Personality

In her younger days she is a driven, combative sort, willing to chase Jiraiya across a long stretch of country just for a fight. For all that her village's customs bind her, she carries genuine warmth and insight, enough to grasp Jiraiya's lingering feelings for Tsunade. A diplomatic streak surfaces too when she agrees to let their duel pass to the next generation. Age mellows her into a tender, caring mentor who offers Shizuka counsel on matters of the heart and stands by her after Sagiri's death.

History

Decades before the main story, Jiraiya slips into Nadeshiko Village to gather "research" for a novel. When he flees, the village leader gives chase and challenges him to a duel with her hand in marriage as the stake. Their fight runs from one night into the following day without either gaining ground, until Jiraiya proposes calling it off, and she reluctantly agrees. He suggests that, should the two never cross paths again, their pupils ought to seek each other out and settle it, a charge that eventually falls to her student Shizuka and to Naruto Uzumaki.

That day-long stalemate against Jiraiya at his peak marks her as a serious fighter, and the Sannin himself praises the tracking skill that let her follow him so far from home. The blade appears to be her preferred manner of combat.
