Gari

Gari sported spiky light-brown hair and a strong, prominent jawline. In life his eyes were green, though the Impure World Reincarnation turned their sclera black and their irises white whenever Kabuto stripped away his mind. He wore Iwagakure's usual flak jacket over a shirt with a single sleeve, leaving his right arm bare apart from a forehead protector cinched high around it, and the customary lapel dangled from the right of his trousers.

Gari kept a cool head, calm enough upon his reincarnation to walk a fellow revived shinobi through what had happened. He sized up his restored, regenerating body and figured he could afford to trade blows rather than fight all out. Others remembered him as prickly, gruff, and ill-tempered. The anime paints him as proud of his skills and eager for a good fight, pleased to have been brought back and set against being sealed away, a stance those who knew him found out of character. He carried unresolved feelings toward the kekkei genkai user Pakura, teased her when the Alliance gained the upper hand, and lamented never getting his chance to fight her; the plain fact of his own death also weighed on him, and he had little patience for anyone who had never faced it.

A celebrated member, and in the anime a captain, of the Explosion Corps, Gari was skilled enough that even Orochimaru coveted his DNA. His deep grasp of ninjutsu let him recognize rare forbidden techniques on sight. He built his fighting around offensive taijutsu fused with his kekkei genkai, forcing opponents to dodge rather than block, a pressure that overwhelmed even a taijutsu prodigy like Rock Lee. He moved fast enough to slip up on patrolling sentries unnoticed and was strong enough to hoist a grown man one-handed. His signature was Explosion Release, a bloodline that merged earth and lightning chakra into explosive force; with the Landmine Fist he could annihilate a foe with a single punch, and in the anime he hurled kunai back with palm-blasts precise enough to kill their throwers. Reincarnated by Kabuto for the Fourth Shinobi World War, Gari fought alongside Zabuza, Haku, Pakura, and Toroi. His arm was blown off by Sai's explosive-laden ink birds yet swiftly regrew, and Might Guy intercepted his charge into the Allied lines. Stripped of consciousness, he killed Tajiki with the Landmine Fist and, together with Pakura, served as a medium to summon the old Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist. He later clashed with Rock Lee, freed Jinin Akebino for a moment through an errant blast, and dueled Monga, who bested him with earth walls and explosive tags before Pakura intervened. Eventually the Third Division sealed him, and when the Impure World Reincarnation was released, his soul returned to the afterlife.
