Genbu (minister)

Genbu keeps his black hair short and spiky, with three strands falling across his forehead, and his eyes are small and dark.

Genbu operates through calculation and quiet pressure. He wraps his demands in the language of fairness, telling Tenji that returning rightfully owned land is simply the correct thing to do, while leaving the threat of war unmistakable beneath the courtesy. Cool and unhurried, he prefers to let a plan mature rather than force it.

Long before the hidden villages arose, Genbu traveled to the Land of Ancestors to meet with its lord, Tenji. He backed Suzaku's push to have a lake within that territory ceded to the Land of That and voiced interest in meeting Kaguya once her name came up. Nights afterward, the two ministers marched a large army to the border. When a spy reported that Kaguya had moved to the capital, Genbu counseled against rushing to seize her, certain the whole country would soon be theirs. The following day he sat through peace talks with Tenji, inventing reasons for stationing so many troops nearby and listening as Suzaku recounted the previous night's events. After Tenji departed, Genbu asked after Suzaku's condition only to be brushed aside. The pair launched their takeover of the country that very night, but Kaguya's Infinite Tsukuyomi swept up the ministers and their entire army, binding them to the roots of the God Tree.
