Appearance

Heavy and muscular like his brother, Ginkaku is the smaller of the pair. Pale eyes sit within dark sclera, his skin grey-toned in the manga and lighter in the anime, and his long silver hair, capped with dark tips, flares out in a style that recalls a headdress. Two horns rise from his head, a pale rectangular mark rests on his nose, and his cheeks bear the same whisker-like lines Naruto has. He typically wears a black-trimmed Kumogakure flak jacket over a sleeveless, high-collared purple uniform, plain wrist-guards, and a purple forehead protector, the character for silver inked onto his right shoulder. A large gourd swings from his neck on a thick rope.

Abilities

The mere reputation of the Gold and Silver Brothers could leave an enemy trembling, and it nearly lured the Fourth Raikage from his command post to face them in person. Together the two can unleash the full might of the legendary Treasured Tools, an arsenal said to outmatch the Five Kage; channeling the Nine-Tails chakra alongside those tools, the pair once caught the Second Raikage and Tobirama Senju off guard, driving both to death's edge. Because his bloodline traces back to the Sage, Ginkaku can stomach eating tailed-beast flesh, and the fox's chakra he absorbed lets him shift into Version 1 and Version 2 states. Each of the five treasured tools is so ravenous for chakra that ordinary wielders would die before mastering them. Chaining together the Benihisago, the Shichiseiken, and the Kokinjo, the brothers can capture both the body and the word soul of a foe, sealing them away, while the Bashosen can produce any of the five elemental natures. Ginkaku wields the Shichiseiken well enough to trade blows with the swordsman Darui and slice clean through a White Zetsu one-handed.

History

In the First Raikage's day, the brothers join a squad sent to seize the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox, only to be gulped down whole. They endure by devouring the beast's flesh, thrash inside it for two weeks, and force the fox to spit them out, emerging as shrunken copies of it thanks to the chakra they soak up. At a peace ceremony between Konoha's Second Hokage and the Second Raikage, the pair spring a coup that leaves the Hokage close to death. Ginkaku meets Kakuzu at some point and is still alive into the era of the Third Raikage.

Ahead of the Fourth Shinobi World War, Kabuto Yakushi resurrects Ginkaku through the Impure World Reincarnation to hurl him at the Allied Shinobi Forces. Surfacing from the sea off the Land of Lightning with his brother and the White Zetsu Army, he confronts the First Division and needles Darui about being used in the very jutsu the pair once beat. Certain that deceit and betrayal are sound shinobi tactics, he takes the Shichiseiken from Kinkaku and severs and locks away the word souls of Samui and Atsui, baiting Atsui into speaking his most-used word to seal him inside the Benihisago. He grabs Samui as a hostage, but she slips a barrage and escapes, and though she stays silent he seals her regardless. When Darui outwits the curse and Ginkaku is knocked into his brother, he brushes the Kokinjo and falls under Darui's own curse. Split apart and terrified, he cries out for Kinkaku, yet because his brother's name is the word he speaks most, that plea sucks him into the Benihisago. By nightfall Tobi gathers the gourd, along with the vessel holding Kinkaku, meaning to pour their Kurama chakra into the Eye of the Moon Plan, and later flings the Benihisago, Ginkaku still trapped within, into the Outer Path's Demonic Statue.
