Ibuse is the venomous salamander that served as Hanzo's personal summon. Massive enough for its master to ride atop its head, the beast fought at Hanzo's side against enemies as formidable as all three of the legendary Sannin.
Ibuse takes the form of an enormous salamander, its brown hide paling toward the underbelly and its face apparently lacking any eyes. Earlier depictions coloured the creature green, but its later anime appearance settled on the brown shade.
As a summon, Ibuse proved its worth by wading through fights with several powerful shinobi and walking away untouched, and the anime showcased raw muscle enough to fell trees with a single leg. Its signature weapon is a Poison Mist exhaled from the mouth; a breath of it can leave a victim's whole body numb within moments and eventually kill, though the right antidote counters the effect. The toxin is not endless, needing roughly five minutes to build and store inside the body before another release. The salamander can also slip underground and travel unseen, surfacing beneath a target to swallow it whole and hold it trapped until the poison finishes the work.
Ibuse served as Hanzo's signature summon, large enough that he could stand on its head, and together they were strong enough to overpower Jiraiya, Orochimaru, and Tsunade in a single battle. The pair also clashed repeatedly with Chiyo over the years. During the Fourth Shinobi World War, a reincarnated Hanzo called the salamander out while chasing the Surprise Attack Division, and it flooded the fleeing shinobi with poison before a band of samurai intervened to save them. Warned by Chiyo that the toxin needed several minutes to recharge, Hanzo sent Ibuse burrowing underground, from which it erupted beneath Mifune and gulped him down. Mifune cut his way out through the creature's head, escaping and seemingly slaying it in the process.
