Jinin Akebino

Jinin wore his brown hair and beard bound up in a topknot, above an angular face dominated by a strongly jutting nose. Over the standard swordsman's gear, a sleeveless dark shirt and matching pants with a waist-guard and the pin-striped arm and leg warmers of his village, he draped a dark poncho. He bore Kirigakure's forehead protector and, like the rest of his generation of swordsmen, wrapped bandages around his neck.

Described in life as heroic, Jinin was also supremely confident in his blade and, in common with his fellow swordsmen, took pleasure in killing. As a member of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist, he ranked among the strongest ninja Kirigakure ever produced, part of a generation regarded as the village's finest, and he could kill silently under cover of mist.

His true mastery lay with the Kabutowari, a blunt weapon pairing a single-edged axe with a hammer joined by a leather strap and said to cut through any guard. He would drive the axe in first, then hammer it deeper like a wedge, wielding both halves with either hand and exploiting each to its fullest thanks to his speed. In the anime he could also slam the hammer down to send out a powerful shockwave. Kakashi observed that this purely offensive approach left Jinin poorly defended, so a fast enough enemy could slip through the openings his aggression created.

Jinin joined the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist and came into possession of the Kabutowari. Some time after the Third Shinobi World War, he and his fellow swordsmen cornered a Konoha team, only for Might Duy to sacrifice himself by opening the Eight Gates so the trapped shinobi could escape; the anime shows Duy's effort killing Jinin outright.

During the Fourth Shinobi World War, Kabuto Yakushi used Pakura and Gari to reincarnate the old generation of swordsmen against the Third Division. Jinin drew the Kabutowari from a scroll in Mangetsu Hōzuki's keeping and, hidden in thick mist, cut through his enemies' weapons and defenses in a silent slaughter. When Zabuza's fall cleared the fog, he stood exposed. In the anime his end was drawn out further: Kakashi bisected him, Ensui Nara pinned him with a Shadow Sewing Technique, and Sai finished the job with his tiger-drawing sealing technique. With the Impure World Reincarnation finally undone, Jinin's soul returned to the afterlife alongside the others.
