Kiba Inuzuka

Everything about Kiba reads feral even though he is unmistakably human. Slit pupils sit in sharp black eyes, fang-like teeth flash when he grins, and his nails can harden into claws, all framed by shaggy brown hair and the twin red fang marks that brand every member of his clan. As a genin he favored a fur-trimmed grey coat worn hood-up over mesh and light armor, paired with a blue forehead protector.

By the timeskip he had swapped the whole ensemble for black: a zip-front leather jacket, matching trousers, and sandals. Two years past the war he let a goatee grow in and pulled a standard flak jacket beneath an open fur coat, adding fingerless gloves. In adulthood he sets the forehead protector aside entirely, his hair longer and tidier above a jacket that echoes his old genin days.

Hot-headed and quick to act, Kiba stands in blunt contrast to his calmer squadmates Shino and Hinata, and his temper can trip him up mid-battle. Still, he thrives on a good fight, welcomes strong opponents, and puts Akamaru's safety above almost everything. He fancies himself the natural leader of Team Kurenai and bristles whenever Shino seems to challenge that, though beneath the constant bickering the two count each other as their closest friend and most trusted partner.

Toward Hinata he behaves like a protective older brother, nudging her to believe in herself and gently ribbing her about her crush on Naruto. His rivalry with Naruto runs back to their Academy days, and much of Kiba's drive comes from refusing to be outpaced by him, right down to a stubborn ambition to one day wear the Hokage's hat. For all his swagger, the sight of Tamaki reduces him to a tongue-tied mess, a weakness that leaves Akamaru and Shino equally exasperated.

Kiba's combat style is built around teamwork with Akamaru, though he can sync just as smoothly with human allies when a fight demands it. Drawing on his clan's Four Legs Technique, he attacks with beastlike ferocity, tearing in with claws and hit-and-run speed. He can turn Akamaru into a mirror image of himself for the Fang Passing Fang, and in tighter spots the pair fuse into a two-headed wolf to unleash the near-unavoidable Fang Wolf Fang; adding a shadow clone escalates this into a three-headed form and an even fiercer rotating assault.

His defining gift, however, is scent. By funneling chakra into his nose he sharpens an already superhuman sense of smell many times over, letting him trail targets across great distances, read a person's condition, and root out hidden traps and enemies, which makes him a natural fit for reconnaissance. That strength doubles as his weakness, since overpowering odors can leave him reeling, the very trick Naruto used to beat him during the Chūnin Exams. Fast reflexes, real physical power, and a habit of leaning on military pills and smoke bombs round out his toolkit.
