Madara Uchiha is the legendary head of the Uchiha clan and the reincarnation of Indra Otsutsuki. Once co-founder of Konohagakure alongside his rival Hashirama Senju, he abandoned that dream to pursue a plan for a false, manufactured peace that would nearly consume the ninja world.
Madara is a pale-skinned man with wild black hair carrying a faint blue sheen. As a boy he wore it chin-length and parted around his face; by adulthood it reached his waist, with long bangs draping over much of his right eye. In his clan's colours he typically kept to a dark high-collared shirt bearing the Uchiha crest, later adding crimson plated armour across his chest, shoulders, waist, and thighs, and he often carried a war fan into battle.
Old age left him gaunt and withered, his thinned hair gone white and his teeth lost, leaning on a kama as a cane. Reincarnation restored his youthful frame, marked by grey sclerae and faint cracks. Once he took in the Ten-Tails, he assumed an Otsutsuki-like guise: pale skin, light hair, a horned protrusion above one temple, and a flowing robe patterned with magatama, echoing the Sage of the Six Paths.
Forged by ceaseless warfare, Madara grew into a perfectionist who drilled at every skill until he mastered it and carried unshakable confidence in his gifts. His long rivalry with Hashirama sharpened a fierce competitive streak, yet also spared him the worst of the Uchiha's so-called Curse of Hatred. So long as his brother Izuna lived, he stayed reasonable and even kind, ready to bend for a perceived greater good.
Izuna's death hollowed that out. Bitter toward the Senju and unable to forgive, he came to see the endless cycle of conflict as unbreakable and grew convinced humanity could never truly change. He treasured combat like nothing else, calling his fights dances, and he prized worthy opponents, granting even Might Guy his open respect. Only in his final moments, his grand scheme in ruins, did he shed that hatred, concede the strength of Hashirama's approach, and rekindle their friendship.
Born in the Warring States Period as the eldest surviving son of Tajima Uchiha, Madara grew up battling the rival Senju and lost every sibling but his brother Izuna. A childhood friendship with a boy named Hashirama, formed in secret across enemy lines, curdled into a decades-long feud once each learned the other's clan. When Izuna died at Tobirama Senju's hands, Madara took his brother's eyes to gain an eternal Mangekyo Sharingan, then relented to peace only after Hashirama offered his own life.
The two founded Konohagakure together, but Madara's demand for control clashed with Hashirama's vision of cooperation, and, guided by a tablet secretly altered by Black Zetsu, he deemed the village a failure. He struck out on his own, returned with the Nine-Tails to challenge Hashirama at what became the Valley of the End, and fell in the fight. A pre-arranged Izanagi quietly revived him, and in hiding he grafted in Hashirama's cells, eventually awakening the Rinnegan and drafting his Eye of the Moon Plan. Near death, he passed his eyes to a young Nagato and entrusted his name and scheme to the wounded Obito Uchiha.
Revived during the Fourth Shinobi World War through the Impure World Reincarnation, Madara tore through the Allied Shinobi Forces, bested the five Kage, and reclaimed control of his own body. He drew the Ten-Tails into himself, awakened the Rinne Sharingan, and cast the Infinite Tsukuyomi over the world, only for Black Zetsu to betray him and use his body to resurrect Kaguya Otsutsuki. With the beasts and the Demonic Statue stripped from him, a dying Madara made his final peace with Hashirama, admitting his rival's dream had outlasted his own.
