Appearance

No serpent in the world grew larger than Manda, save for the modified clone fashioned after him. He loomed above buildings, trees, and towering rock, and his sheer length outstripped even Gamabunta and Katsuyu, letting him wind about Katsuyu with coils to spare. So far could he stretch his maw that Gamabunta might vanish down it in one swallow.

Purple in hue, he bore black rings spaced along his body and four horn-like spikes upon his head, while his green eyes sat above enormous fangs set like a constrictor's rather than a viper's, their build hinting at venom all the same.

Abilities

Reckoned the mightiest of the giant serpents, Manda could match Gamabunta and Katsuyu together and nearly finished off both. His renown ran so deep that Gamakichi trembled at nothing more than his stare. Blinding speed let him slip past Katsuyu's strike and pin the slug in place, and when Gamabunta and Jiraiya's joint attack set him alight, he shrugged off his skin much as Orochimaru does before darting underground in rapid bursts. His frame held firm even against Deidara's ultimate blast, staying whole and shielding Sasuke within his mouth, though weathering that explosion claimed the serpent's life.

History

Arrogant to the core, Manda held himself above all others and bowed to Orochimaru only because he had never managed to defeat him; Kabuto Yakushi feared the snake would rebel the moment he discovered Orochimaru could no longer cast techniques. He grumbled at the terms of every summoning, once demanding a hundred human sacrifices for his trouble and swearing revenge after a losing fight, and his hatred of Gamabunta cut both ways.

In the hunt for Tsunade, Orochimaru and Kabuto called him forth against Jiraiya's Gamabunta and Tsunade's Katsuyu; savouring the meal ahead, he struck, but Katsuyu split apart to escape his grip. When the pair answered with a firestorm, he cast off his scorched skin and dug beneath the ground, only for Tsunade to spear Gamabunta's blade through the top of his mouth, which held him fast and denied him any prey for close to a month before he stormed off with fresh threats.

His death arrives during the pursuit of Itachi: beaten by Sasuke Uchiha, Deidara unleashes his C0, and Sasuke calls up Manda under a Sharingan genjutsu, meaning to leap toward Ryuchi Cave from within him, only for the blast to catch them first. Suigetsu Hozuki later summons the dying serpent to flush Sasuke out, and freed of control, Manda spends his final breath cursing the Uchiha. Even so, Kabuto harvests cells from the corpse to grow a stronger copy, Manda II.
