Manda II

This second Manda stretches even longer than the reptile it was copied from, rivaling the vast Island Turtle in sheer length and standing as one of the biggest summons anyone commands. Four rows of claws line its body, a flared cobra hood spreads behind its skull, and a rattlesnake's rattle tips its tail. Where the first snake carried the blunt teeth of a constrictor, this one bares the hollow fangs of a venomous cobra.

Its coloring stays close to the original: a purple hide, green eyes, and the same shadowed patches ringing them. The differences are what set it apart. Gone are the four horn-like spurs and the black bands that circled the earlier Manda, and rather than resembling a single constrictor, this creation blends traits pulled from many kinds of snake together with the look of an oriental dragon.

Where the first Manda served Orochimaru grudgingly, this replacement shows genuine devotion to Kabuto, the man who engineered it. Loyalty to its creator defines the beast entirely.

Kabuto boasts that his creation surpasses the original on every front: greater size, greater power, and far keener senses. That strength showed plainly when the snake dragged the enormous Island Turtle to a halt underwater and hauled it backward, and again when it tore into the Giant Squid guarding the island, killing the guardian with a single crushing bite. As a direct copy of the mightiest colossal serpent, it is assumed to inherit the first Manda's gifts as well, from blistering speed to the ability to molt its skin, though whether this version can speak like its predecessor was never confirmed.

Its lone battlefield outing came during the buildup to the Fourth Shinobi World War, when Kabuto sent it to pin down the Island Turtle. The serpent slipped past and slew the squid, clamped onto the turtle's tail, and held the creature still for one of Deidara's explosive charges. The blast flipped the turtle onto its back and left it helpless, after which the snake coiled around its neck and squeezed. Once Yamato had been seized, Kabuto climbed into the snake's nostril and let the summon vanish.
