Mezu
CharacterMezu is a member of Root, the covert Anbu faction under Danzō Shimura. Surgically remade to pass as Kagen Uchiha, he and his twin brother Gozu took turns infiltrating the Uchiha clan, and Mezu ultimately let himself be cut down on the night of the clan's massacre.
Appearance
For his infiltration work Mezu was surgically reshaped into a double of Kagen Uchiha, close enough to move among the clan in his place. Away from that duty he wore the Root mask assigned to him, a monkey design painted blue, distinct from the identical red mask his brother carried.
Personality
What defines Mezu is a quiet, self-effacing loyalty. When death came for him he met it without struggle, reasoning that as the younger of the two brothers it fell to him to die so that Gozu might be spared.
History
Reporting straight to Danzō Shimura, Mezu and Gozu spent years feeding Root intelligence on the Uchiha, each in turn wearing Kagen's face inside the clan. In the final year before the clan's downfall, the brothers also lent their aid to Itachi Uchiha as he tried to head off the Uchiha's planned coup. When Itachi carried out the massacre, Mezu happened to be the twin then posing as Kagen. Understanding that Kagen's corpse had to be counted among the dead, he offered no resistance and let Itachi kill him, choosing to be the one who fell so that his brother would not have to.
