Misumi Tsurugi

A cloth mask hides much of Misumi's face, draping from his mouth down toward his neck, while his forehead protector sits atop his head like a bandanna. He dresses in his squad's shared uniform: a sleeveless, high-collared purple top over a short-sleeved white layer, a plain obi at the waist, purple trousers, blue sandals, fingerless purple gloves, and round eyeglasses. Once he abandons the Leaf for Amachi, he trades this for a short-sleeved shirt with matching pants and sandals, and his spiky black hair is finally shown.

Confidence borders on arrogance for Misumi, and a cruel streak runs beneath it. He opens his clashes with Kankuro and later with Naruto and Ino sounding sure of himself, only to let his own pride undo him. Honest tactics hold little appeal for him; he reaches readily for deceit and dirty methods to get what he wants.

To make himself a better information-gatherer, Misumi undergoes Soft Physique Modification, a surgery that loosens his joints so he can squeeze into any gap. Channeling chakra through his slackened body, he lengthens and twists his limbs at will, wrapping and coiling around a target. The anime also grants him water clones. He shows off the technique in the Chunin Exam preliminaries against Kankuro, winding around his opponent and vowing to snap his neck unless he yields. What he actually ensnares turns out to be Kankuro's puppet Karasu wearing a disguise, and the puppet crushes his bones in return, costing him the match. In the anime he resurfaces as a guard and lab assistant for the scientist Amachi, where Ino Yamanaka hijacks his body to lash his arms to pillars and abandons him as the structure caves in.
