Appearance

Dark shades hid Muta's eyes, a trait shared by everyone in his family, while brown hair fell well past his shoulders. A harness strapped across his back held a gourd, which he packed with a reserve supply of his kikaichu.

Personality

Reserved and serious in the manner typical of his relatives, Muta placed his village and fellow shinobi above himself and executed assignments precisely as instructed. Pressure rarely rattled him, and that composure paired with a logical, investigative streak. During the war his careful reporting fed headquarters with information that let the allied armies press their advantage.

History

Insects called kikaichu lived inside Muta's body and drew on his chakra, and he loosed them in swarms to surround foes, sap their energy, or scramble enemy sensors with an interfering signal. A second species, the shokaichu, burrowed through soil to trace nearby chakra and relay what it found. During Pain's raid on Konoha, Muta joined Shibi, Shino, and another clansman to confront Konan, their bugs devouring the paper that had trapped several wounded shinobi.

When the Fourth Shinobi World War broke out, he scouted alongside Tokuma Hyuga and others on Kabuto's trail, his underground insects uncovering the White Zetsu horde massed beneath an Akatsuki base. Ordered to carry the warning back to the alliance, he split from his squad and jammed a pursuing sensor before entrusting a scroll of intelligence to his kikaichu. Sasori then seized control of his body and turned him against the Surprise Attack Division, forcing him to grab Zaji as a hostage. After Kankuro pulled Zaji free, Deidara detonated explosive clay hidden in Muta's insect jar, killing him.
