Nekobaa is an elderly shopkeeper who lives in a deserted city with her granddaughter Tamaki and a household full of cats, some of them able to speak. Her supply store once served the Uchiha clan, and she keeps up a paw-print collection first started by Itachi Uchiha.
Nekobaa wears her long grey hair held in place by a pair of dark, cat-like ears. A light purple scarf drapes her shoulders over an orange dress, and her black nose has a distinctly feline shape. She tends to keep her eyes narrowed into a squint.
Warm and grandmotherly, Nekobaa holds a lasting fondness for the Uchiha brothers she watched grow up. When Sasuke came to her as a young man readying to hunt his brother, she recalled the days the two were "little kittens" and struggled to believe they now meant to kill one another.
In the anime, Itachi Uchiha regularly stopped by Nekobaa's shop to handle errands, often with a young Sasuke trailing along. To keep the bored boy from sulking, Itachi invented a game of gathering paw prints from swift, agile cats, and this Paw Encyclopaedia lived on with Nekobaa even after Sasuke lost interest. She herself secured one of the final two prints Itachi had marked, the paw of the Two-Tails, which its host Yugito Nii agreed to provide at her request.
Later, Nekobaa handed Team 7 a mission to track down and record a particular cat's paw print for her encyclopaedia. Sasuke seized on it as something personal, having done the same with Itachi years before, and once the print was captured Nekobaa revealed the whole task had been arranged by Itachi as one more trial for his brother to clear. During the Itachi Pursuit Mission, Sasuke returned to buy gear for his new team, Hebi, prompting her to reflect on how far the once-close brothers had drifted.
