History

As a direct descendant of Hamura born into the main family, he gave up his Byakugan at birth to the Tenseigan in keeping with clan custom. Decades on, the main family and the branch family fell into civil war after the branch twisted Hamura's celestial decree, and the Tenseigan itself struck down the patriarch and the whole main family. Though never fully shown, his gifts included sharing his own past as a vision with anyone he deemed worthy, and sensing the presence of a Byakugan despite his own blindness. Long after his death, Hinata Hyūga discovered him in a catacomb beneath a temple in the Ōtsutsuki's ancient Ninja City, where he poured a vision of the Energy Vessel and Tenseigan into her, overwhelming her into unconsciousness, and warned that the Byakugan Princess had to keep the Tenseigan from awakening. He appeared to her again among the clan's departed, recounting the main family's fall and the rise of Toneri, the lone branch survivor swayed by a warped reading of the decree, and bowed with the others when Hamura's soul arrived to name Hinata the only one who could destroy the vessel controlling the Moon.
