Shiore

Shiore kept long, sleek black hair and dark eyes, and topped his head with a woven straw kasa that hid his forehead protector beneath the brim. His clothing mirrored Orochimaru's own, though the legs of the one-piece matched its upper half and left his calves and ankles free of the bandages the Sannin wore.

The story shows almost nothing of Shiore as a person, since he is on the page only long enough to be killed and then replaced, so his true manner never surfaces. Even his gender was muddled in translation: Japanese and English print versions treat him as male, while the English dub and some subtitled releases call the disguised figure a woman until Orochimaru is exposed.

Shiore came to Konohagakure with his team to compete in the Chūnin Exams, but the group never got the chance. Orochimaru, working with the Sound ninja, slaughtered them beforehand and took Shiore's face as a disguise, using it to enter the Forest of Death and gauge Sasuke Uchiha's abilities. The borrowed face was burned away when Sasuke countered with a Fire Release dragon-flame technique, and the real Shiore's body was later discovered by Izumo Kamizuki, Kotetsu Hagane, and Mozuku.

By the time Anko Mitarashi realised her old teacher had infiltrated the exams and moved against him, Orochimaru had finished what he came for and shed the disguise. The talismans on Shiore's conical hat are marked three times with a character meaning evil, and his name itself only surfaced in an official anime profile guide.
