Appearance

Tamaki's brown hair grows long enough to fall past her waist, and her eyes are hazel. Her go-to outfit pairs a sleeveless red top with pale trousers, fishnet stockings, and sandals, and bandages cover the upper part of her left hand. Back in childhood her hair stopped at the shoulders, and she dressed in an orange sleeveless top, dark red shorts, fishnets, and sandals. Roughly two years on from the Fourth Shinobi World War she switches to a short, sleeveless kimono over cropped trousers, and long after settling in Konoha she appears in a light orange kimono fastened with a green obi.

Personality

A caring streak runs through Tamaki, reaching even to near-strangers such as Jūgo. As a girl she nursed a quiet crush on Sasuke Uchiha, a detail the anime provides. It is Kiba who eventually wins her heart, despite the tall tales he leans on early on, and although the two never marry, they live contentedly side by side, give or take the occasional spat over their cats and dogs.

History

Tamaki grows up beside her grandmother Nekobaa, running a store in the deserted city of Sora-ku, a place they share with countless cats, talking ninneko like Denka and Hina among them. In the anime she delivers the final paw print needed for the Paw Encyclopaedia to her grandmother, and together they help Team 7 by lending cat ears so the ninja can slip into Nekomata's Cat Fortress. When Sasuke's group drops by for supplies ahead of their clash with Itachi, she sets about finding Jūgo some clothes and chides her grandmother for proposing he just be draped in a curtain.

Later she encounters Kiba and Akamaru, along with Shino Aburame, as they search for a beekeeper, defusing a scuffle over the ninneko Momo. Smitten, Kiba tags along as she guides them, though she warns that no one comes back from the fog-shrouded bamboo forest, and their attraction grows through his mix of bragging and genuine charm. Years afterward, the couple heads to the hot springs during a Cat-Dog Festival and there cross paths with Kakashi Hatake, Might Guy, and Mirai Sarutobi. Known around town as gifted animal handlers, the two grow so competitive over whose pets are better that the whole village erupts into a cat-versus-dog feud, settled only when Mirai conjures a Cat-Dog spirit by genjutsu. When the five Kage assemble to observe the Chūnin Exams, Tamaki takes in the matches at Kiba's side, Akamaru close by.
