Zō

Behind a feline mask marked with a trio of red whisker lines, Zō keeps the standard kit of a captain in the black ops corps. He wraps himself in a pale cloak over dark trousers, binds his shins in bandages, and steps in black sandals. Spiky black hair rounds out the look he shares with the rest of Konoha's masked elite.

Duty defines him. Zō pours himself into the safety of his village, and though little of his private character surfaces, his devotion shows plainly in grief. When Orochimaru's forces stormed Konoha and the Third Hokage fell beyond his reach, the captain was left tormented by his helplessness, later lamenting at the funeral that watching was all he and his squad had managed.

Zō commands both flame and lightning conversions, and his analytical mind pairs with a store of secret clan techniques. He can raise four stone columns from the earth that lance an enemy with electricity to pin them in place, then escalate the trap with a partner: a flood of mud is packed over the pillars to form a giant kiln, and by firing it he hardens the clay and cooks whoever is sealed inside. His genjutsu can drag a target back into memories they had buried. Years before, he stood among the Anbu ringing the Chūnin Exam arena when the Sound village struck, and during Pain's assault on the village he guarded Tsunade, escorted Ino toward her father, and brought down one of the invader's summons with his pillar-binding technique alongside two fellow captains.
