Betrayed by Gato and moved by Naruto's tears, Zabuza makes one last charge to avenge Haku, closing the Land of Waves mission and inspiring Naruto to seek a ninja path of his own.
Gato admits he always meant to double-cross Zabuza, calling his fees too steep, and sics his fresh band of hired muscle on the swordsman. Zabuza tells Kakashi their duel is finished now that he no longer draws a paycheck. When Gato kicks Haku's corpse, Naruto erupts, but Zabuza shrugs it off, claiming he only ever treated Haku as a tool, just as Gato had treated him. Naruto refuses to accept that and breaks down in tears, insisting Haku poured everything he had into Zabuza and sacrificed his own life and freedom out of devotion. The words land, and Zabuza weeps too, at last honoring what Haku gave him.
With his arms disabled by Kakashi, Zabuza clenches Naruto's kunai in his teeth and drives into Gato's crowd, absorbing wound after wound but still cutting down the crime boss before falling. The rest of Team 7 find Sasuke alive, spared any killing blow by Haku, and the townsfolk of the Land of Waves rush in to chase off Gato's remaining thugs and protect Tazuna. Dying, Zabuza asks to be laid beside Haku and wishes to reach the same place in death, and Kakashi tells him he believes they will meet again. The team buries the pair in a quiet spot, marking the grave with Zabuza's blade Kubikiribocho. Rejecting the idea that a ninja must be nothing more than a tool, Naruto vows to forge his own way of the ninja, bids Inari goodbye, and heads home as Tazuna names the completed bridge the Great Naruto Bridge.
Gato betrays Zabuza and orders his hired thugs to kill him. Naruto's tears move Zabuza to acknowledge Haku's sacrifice. Zabuza charges Gato with a kunai in his teeth and kills the crime boss despite fatal wounds. The villagers of the Land of Waves arrive and drive off Gato's men. Zabuza dies and is buried beside Haku, his sword Kubikiribocho left as a grave marker. Naruto resolves to find his own ninja way, and the finished bridge is named the Great Naruto Bridge.
The episode adapts the manga's 32nd and 33rd chapters and closes the Prologue arc set in the Land of Waves. It stands as an early emotional peak for the series, cementing Naruto's belief that a shinobi should not be reduced to a mere weapon. A change from the source material is noted: in the manga, Zabuza beheads Gato outright instead of slashing him and knocking him into the sea.

The transformation everyone knows, the follow-up question nobody would touch. Why we made a smooth R&B track about the golden glow Dragon Ball never talks about....
