The Steam Ninja Scrolls: The Dog and Cat War!

Heading for the hot spring district, Mirai frets about not packing enough clothes for the long trip, and Guy and Kakashi bicker over how she should overcome the worry, noting how much of her mother's genjutsu talent she carries. The town proves far busier than Guy expected, its streets full of people in dog and cat masks. Kakashi explains the local festival, rooted in rival versions of the town's founding legend, with worshippers honoring either a dog or a cat deity, plus a third destruction god belonging to neither camp. Cat and dog devotees pour in from many lands, and the celebration builds toward a shrine clash.

Pushing through the crowd, the group runs into Kiba and Tamaki, who have wound up heading the dog and cat factions after their date turned into a rivalry. The travelers realize that staying in town hinges on brokering peace between the two sides, folding the feud into their assignment.

Mirai speaks with Tamaki, who is hurt that a rare outing has soured, since Kiba's duties with the Police Force leave them almost no time together. Her attempt to reason with Kiba fails, as his admirers keep egging him on, and a clumsy peace offering only inflames things further. When the shrine battle erupts at night and Kakashi remarks that the crowd may need everything torn down before they will listen, Mirai gets an idea.

Borrowing a lighter from Guy, she uses its flame with Fire Release to conjure an illusion of the destruction deity, its form fusing both dog and cat traits. The faithful buy it instantly, and when Guy lashes out at the phantom and smashes the wall dividing the dog and cat springs, the crowd reads it as a divine sign to abandon their split and celebrate together. Kiba and Tamaki reconcile, and Mirai finally gets her bath. Kakashi points out that her lighter trick echoes Asuma's own style, meaning she blended both parents' techniques to end the dispute, leaving her hungry to understand her father better.
