Gameplay

Exploration of overworld maps leads into randomly triggered turn based battles fought on a field split into twelve squares per side, with up to three characters occupying a square at once and chakra powering ninja techniques. More than 20 characters are playable, and the game was the first in the Naruto series to use Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, letting players battle each other online.

Story & Setting

Rather than retelling anime story arcs, the game runs on an original filler plot; its Japanese title translates roughly to a conflict between spirit beasts and a Leaf Village squad. This sets it apart from the more anime faithful first Path of the Ninja.

Tose developed the game, with Takara Tomy publishing in Japan and D3 Publisher handling the North American release. It reached Japan on July 13, 2006, with the North American release following roughly two years later on October 15, 2008.
