Overview

On paper the Gatō Company was an ordinary transport and shipping business, but its founder Gatō treated that trade as a mask for far darker dealings. Behind the cargo runs he moved contraband and peddled narcotics, and the fortune he amassed made him the richest man alive. To guard his wealth, he resorted freely to blackmail and murder.

Role

Most of the company's manpower came from hired thugs and mercenaries, among them Gatō's personal bodyguards Zori and Waraji. Their task was to keep the Land of Waves firmly under his thumb by stamping out anyone who dared resist. When Tazuna began work on a bridge meant to break that hold, Gatō contracted Zabuza Momochi to kill him.

Notable Members

Gatō sat at the head of the operation, with Zori and Waraji serving as his enforcers. Scheming to cut costs, Gatō intended to have his thugs turn on Zabuza once the swordsman had been worn down fighting Team 7. He badly misjudged how much fight Zabuza had left and died on the swordsman's blade. The leaderless thugs then meant to plunder the Land of Waves in place of their lost pay, but the townspeople rose up and drove them off.
