The Surprise Attack and Diversion Platoon is an Akatsuki strike team Kabuto Yakushi stitched together from reanimated shinobi at the start of the Fourth Shinobi World War. Its purpose is a punishing air raid on the Allied Shinobi Forces, delivered through traps, bombs, and stealth.
The Surprise Attack and Diversion Platoon is a unit assembled under the Akatsuki banner by Kabuto Yakushi as the Fourth Shinobi World War opened. Every fighter in it was raised through the Impure World Reincarnation, and the squad's central task was to rain destruction on the Allied Shinobi Forces from the air.
Kabuto lays out the team's design to Tobi: Sasori and Deidara supply the offense with their traps and explosives, while Chūkichi and Shin fill the sensor and reinforcement roles. When Chūkichi balks at taking orders from anyone tied to Akatsuki, his personality is wiped away, a moment that leaves the reincarnated Sasori brooding over how low the organization has sunk. Their raid begins over the fleeing Infiltration and Reconnaissance Party, whom they pummel with explosions while an Insect Jamming Technique blinds both the enemy's eyes and Chūkichi's chakra sense.
A dazed Muta Aburame drifts into the Surprise Attack Division's camp, but Kankurō and Hoheto see through the trap Sasori has orchestrated from afar, and Kankurō pulls Zaji clear before the planted clay detonates. The battle turns as Omoi's feint cuts Sasori's control over his captured puppets, letting Kankurō hook his own chakra threads onto Sasori and drag him into rising earth that crushes Deidara. Sasori pivots to puppeteering Shin, only for the Root member to be lured into a hidden trap just before Deidara can set off the bomb in his stomach. Sai's twin drawings then hurl both enemies into Kankurō's puppets, where Omoi's lightning blade shuts down Deidara's remaining explosives. Shin's soul slips free, and Sasori, moved by Kankurō's words, passes on his Mother and Father puppets before resting. Chūkichi survives to summon fresh reinforcements, returning alongside Chiyo, Hanzō, and Kimimaro to face Kankurō's retreating division.
Sasori and Deidara form the offensive core, chaining puppetry, chakra threads, and explosive clay together against the enemy. Chūkichi is meant to serve as the platoon's sensor, though his defiance costs him his personality, and he later becomes the one who calls in additional reanimated fighters. Shin, a former Root operative, is deployed as reinforcement and as a walking bomb, his near-immortality letting him rise again after Sai breaks his neck.
