Byakuya triggers it by letting his sealed sword drop point-first into the ground, whole or broken; it sinks as though into water, spreading a ripple as the surroundings darken. Two ranks of a thousand giant blades then rise to either side of him before dissolving into countless minuscule ones that stream through the air like blossoms on the wind.

Where his Shikai overwhelms through spread, the Bankai concentrates staggering numbers into shifting patterns, a versatile weapon that ranges from smothering waves to a single condensed sword. Its rarest forms carry a solemn weight, reserved for foes Byakuya has resolved to end with his own hands.

In its base state the Bankai is an immensely larger echo of the Shikai, once numbering a hundred million blades that Byakuya wields for both onslaught and shield; he can direct them with his mind, though guiding them by hand doubles their speed. Beyond this lie the scenes. Gokei traps a foe inside a whirling sphere of blades that seals every angle before collapsing inward to annihilate whoever is caught. Senkei, its true form, is called forth with Byakuya's own blood and gathers the blades into roughly a thousand glowing swords in rotating rows around himself and his enemy; it abandons defense entirely, letting him call each sword to hand for close combat, and he saves it for opponents he has sworn to cut down personally. Its finishing strike, Ikka Senjinka, hurls every Senkei sword at once, potent enough to reduce the head of a fully transformed Gerard Valkyrie to dust. Shukei: Hakuteiken compresses all of those swords into a single blade of concentrated force, wreathing Byakuya in vast white wings and a halo of spiritual energy. Training at the Soul King Palace deepened every form, widening Senkei to six rows and letting the Bankai fell empowered Quincy in a single sweep.
