Wabisuke

In physical form the spirit resembles a lean, hollow-cheeked man whose long black hair frames a face marked by unusually tiny pupils and thin brows rimmed in dark shadow. Red chains coil about his head, while a heavy slab of pale stone rides on his back, lashed there by thick black links that cross his chest and meet at a brass clasp near his waist. A swath of dark green fabric wraps his lower half, and he drags along a large iron ball fixed to a chain.

While Muramasa's control holds him, Wabisuke says little, letting the clatter of his ball and chain stand in for words that Ruri'iro Kujaku translates on his behalf. He fights without pity, casually warning enemies that their backs lie exposed before pressing a lethal advantage, as when he cripples Izuru and moves to take his head. Anyone who blocks his path invites a strike. Once the brainwashing lifts, he grows friendlier toward his wielder and stands with him in combat, though his quirks remain, branding those who slight him as gloomy and floating blunt, extreme fixes for minor problems. His fondness for pointing out an opponent's undefended rear never fades.

During the anime-only uprising of the Zanpakutō spirits, Wabisuke sides with Muramasa and stands among the blades that confront the Shinigami on Sōkyoku Hill. He agrees to help seize Ichigo Kurosaki, and when Izuru captures Kazeshini, Wabisuke ambushes his own master, quietly doubling the weight of his sword four times before pinning him and readying a killing blow. Kenpachi Zaraki's arrival shatters the building beneath him, and his follow-up swing fails to bite into Kenpachi's skin, leaving him to revert to sword form and break apart.

Mayuri Kurotsuchi restores and frees him from Muramasa's grip, after which he fights beside Izuru to hold back the flood of Gillians pouring from an unstable Garganta, lending his spiritual power to seal the tear. Once Ichigo defeats Muramasa, he settles back into Izuru's blade. In the later Tōjū troubles he crosses paths with Kazeshini again and, alongside Haineko and Hōzukimaru, leaves the rogue spirit to his own devices. He joins the final stand against the Tōjū Kirikaze, weighing down the fiend's arm before Renji finishes it, at which point Wabisuke returns to his sword for good as the spirits' borrowed forms fade.
