Gameplay

As a 3D arena fighter, it drops two to four combatants into an open stage where they move freely and trade blows. It carries 36 playable characters, up from 23 in the 2006 original, and runs two separate meters, one for Reiatsu and one for the blade or transformation gauge. Players can trigger release states in the middle of a fight, such as Ichigo entering Bankai, to unlock stronger attacks.

Premise

The game does not retell the manga. Instead it strings its many one-on-one and group bouts together through text and voice acting, with much of the cinematic footage lifted straight from the anime.

Release

Racjin develops the title and Sony Computer Entertainment publishes it, launching on PlayStation 2 in Japan on September 27, 2007. Like the rest of the Blade Battlers line, it stays a Japan-exclusive release and sells strongly in that market.
