Concept and Gameplay

Chozetsu Hakkutsu ONLINE, roughly Superior Excavation Online, casts the player as a digger drilling underground for treasure in first person view, echoing Simon's role in the anime. A shop run by an original character named Asaki lets players buy and upgrade drills, and the game also lets testers collect digital trading cards of the show's characters and trade them with each other.

Konami opens registration to only 3,000 players who hold a Konami ID, and the closed beta runs from April 1 to April 16, 2007. That short window turns out to be the entire lifespan of the game, since it never advances beyond this single closed test.

Cancellation

Installing the client corrupts Windows badly enough that affected testers have to reinstall their operating system entirely. Konami's fix is to mail out 500GB external hard drives so testers can back up their files first, an unusual and costly form of compensation. The game never returns from the closed beta stage and gets quietly cancelled without a public release.
