Overview

The Vile are ancient horrors born of the world's fourth age, beings whose potential for devastation set them above any other lifeform of their era. Sealed away in the subterranean Under Realm, they endure as a persistent danger even after long confinement left them greatly diminished.

Their bodies are colorless and hairless, bulky in build, with elongated limbs that end in clawed grips. Each of their four hands carries sharp, digit-like talons, while a cavernous maw crowded with jagged teeth dominates the head. They possess no eyes whatsoever.

Role

During the fourth age these creatures wielded power so vast that they menaced both the surface and the depths below, their destructive reach exceeding that of any rival. Their mere presence stalled the growth of life and put the survival of the planet itself in doubt.

To end the threat, the demons under Satan waged a long and savage campaign against them. The infernal host drove the Vile down into the Under Realm, where they were caged and steadily broken through relentless torment, with many demons sacrificing themselves to keep the seal from failing. Contained but never destroyed, the Vile unwittingly allowed the world above to flourish, giving rise in time to humanity, civilization, and the ages that followed.
