Gameplay

Teams of three fight with one active character and two sidekicks, and the new Side Kick Plus Ultra lets a benched ally unleash a finishing move mid battle. A stamina meter limits dash cancels, wall running, and quickstepping, forcing tighter positioning. Mission mode adds a light management layer, letting players run a Hero Office and spend earned money and fame to recruit more fighters.

Premise

The Hero campaign picks up after the Hideout Raid and runs through the Provisional Hero License Exam and Shie Hassaikai arcs, told in fully voiced motion comic cutscenes. A nearly equal length Villain campaign retells the same stretch from the League of Villains' side, giving the full story around four hours to finish.

Reception

Metacritic scores the PS4 and PC versions 68 and the Switch and Xbox One versions 65, with OpenCritic showing a 35 percent critic recommendation rate. Critics call the roster and combat tweaks a step up from the first game but again point to a story mode built for existing fans. First week sales across Switch and PS4 hit roughly 24,625 units.
