Naruto: Path of the Ninja is a turn based Japanese RPG for the Game Boy Advance that sends Naruto and his squad through Genin training, the Chunin Exams, and the Sand ninja plot. It released in Japan in 2004 and reached the West only later, as a 2007 Nintendo DS port.

Gameplay

The game follows a traditional turn based JRPG structure: players explore villages to shop and pick up missions, then fight random and scripted battles while crossing forests, swamps, and deserts between towns. Combat lets up to three characters act together and use Jutsu special moves, and the Nintendo DS version added touch screen minigames and a ramen shop crafting feature. Reviewers considered the formula familiar rather than inventive, closer to a classic Final Fantasy style RPG than an action game.

Story & Setting

Path of the Ninja compresses several early anime arcs into a roughly 12 to 15 hour adventure. Seven playable characters carry the story from the Genin team's formation through the Chunin Exam trials and into the conflict with the Sand village's scheme against Konoha. The plot condenses its source material but keeps the core cast and major story beats intact.

Release

Tose developed the game and Tomy published it in Japan on July 22, 2004 for Game Boy Advance, where it launched alongside a limited edition orange Game Boy Advance bundle. It stayed a Japanese exclusive on that platform; a Nintendo DS remake later carried the same story to North America on October 23, 2007 under the same English title, published by D3 Publisher, since the original Game Boy Advance release never left Japan.
