Gameplay

Players swing the Wii Remote and Nunchuk together in set directions to throw attacks, though the GameCube pad and Wii Classic Controller work as button based alternatives. A new plane switch mechanic lets a hard aerial hit trigger a short cutscene that carries both fighters into a different section of the stage, opening up the arena mid match.

Story & Setting

EX drops the pre timeskip cast used in the earlier Gekitō Ninja Taisen games in favor of characters as they appear in Naruto: Shippūden, and its content draws from the Kazekage Rescue arc, covering Gaara's capture by Akatsuki and the mission to bring him back.

Series Context

EX never left Japan, but its fighting engine became the base for the Western Clash of Ninja Revolution on Wii. That release mixes Gekitō Ninja Taisen! 3's characters and pacing with mechanics introduced here, so the two share an engine without either being a direct translation of the other.
