Gameplay

A player picks an assist character at the select screen who can be called into a match for extra damage, and pairing certain fighters together unlocks combination jutsu that reflect relationships from the anime and manga. Outside of matches, an RPG style mode lets players walk around sections of the village and talk to residents rather than navigating menus.

Release

Namco Bandai Games released Ultimate Ninja 5 in Japan on December 20, 2007. Dubbing costs and the PlayStation 2's fading install base are cited reasons it never reached North America, and Europe only received a subtitled version without English voice acting, arriving roughly two years after the Japanese release.
