Gameplay

Battles are driven by a koma, or comic-panel, deck laid out on the bottom screen in a grid of twenty squares. Panels come in three sizes: small help panels grant boosts, medium support panels lend a brief hand, and large battle panels represent the playable fighters. Players can save several decks, swap characters mid-fight like a tag battle, tackle over seventy-five missions, and play with two to four people.

Release and Reception

Ganbarion developed the game and Nintendo published it, launching in Japan on August 8, 2005. Cross-licensing between the many manga rights holders kept it from an official Western release. It scored well, around 80 on Metacritic, ranked among Japan's top sellers that year, and led to the 2006 sequel Jump Ultimate Stars.
