Gameplay

The game is a side-scrolling beat-em-up with Luffy as the only playable fighter. He starts with a handful of his trademark short and long range attacks, and more unlock over the course of the adventure to aid both combat and exploration. Zoro, Nami, Usopp, and Sanji can be summoned as special moves, and roughly a dozen bosses, such as Buggy and Smoker, stand in the way.

Story and Setting

The game loosely retells the East Blue Saga across six locations, carrying Luffy from Romance Dawn through Orange Town, Syrup Village, the Baratie, and Arlong Park before ending at Loguetown. It follows the 4Kids English dub of the anime rather than the original Japanese version.

Dimps developed the game and Namco Bandai Games published it. It released only in North America on September 7, 2005, making it one of the very few One Piece titles sold exclusively in the United States and never issued in Japan.
