Guardian Mars

She takes the form of a tiny, fairy-like figure that drifts through the air, wrapped in a purple radiance. Beyond her miniature size she is a match for Super Sailor Mars in every feature. Because the manga prints in monochrome, that radiance shows up only as a wide ring encircling her with no readable color, whereas the Crystal series lets the purple trace her silhouette instead.

She is not a distinct person so much as a facet of the Sailor Guardian she watches over, belonging to Rei in the same way the Sailor Crystal does. Her role is one of counsel and direction, appearing at the pivotal moment to point her princess toward the source of her true power.

Guardian Mars steps forward in Elysion once Super Sailor Moon first calls up the Holy Moon Chalice. In that instant the solar system soldiers unexpectedly revert to their princess selves, and each finds her power guardian materializing at her side. Hovering ahead of Princess Mars, the spirit tells her to send strength from Phobos and Deimos Castle into the chalice. The surge lifts Usagi into Eternal Sailor Moon, and moments later Rei's cry of Mars Crystal Power, Make Up carries her into Eternal Sailor Mars for the very first time. Guardian Mars slips away once Rei reaches for her castle and is seen no more.
